The Town of Jamestown operates one sanitation crew that provides all garbage, recycling, and yard waste curbside collection services for its citizens. This dedicated group needs your help so they may continue their efficient and effective collection process. By following the guidelines below, you will receive the best service the Town can possibly offer.

For general questions, please contact the Town Hall at 336.454.1138.

Collection schedules may be adjusted during the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veteran's Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

The collection schedule may be modified without notification if required. If severe weather does not allow for safe collection of garbage, recycling, or yard waste, then the garbage, recycling, or yard waste will be collected on the next scheduled collection day.

Yard Waste Collection Schedule

Thursday and Friday
The Public Services staff begins collection of yard waste on Thursdays and continues on Fridays as demand warrants. Thus, all yard waste should be placed at the street no later than 7:00am on Thursday. Yard waste is described as vegetative matter resulting from normal landscaping maintenance performed by the homeowner only, including but not limited to leaves, twigs, grass, limbs, shrub clippings, hay/pine straw, pine cones and small logs.

Composting

Residents are encouraged to recycle their leaves by composting or shredding them and using them as fertilizer for lawns and gardens. You can also use leaves as mulch to protect plants and shrubs. For more information on mulching or composting leaves, call Guilford County Cooperative Extension Service at 336.641.2400.

Limb Limitations - The Correct Cut

Limbs and brush larger than 1 inch in diameter but smaller than 6 inches in diameter must be cut not to exceed 6 feet in length.

Tree trunks and limbs larger than 6 inches in diameter must not exceed 2 feet in length and must not weigh more than 50 pounds. Generally, limbs and tree trunks larger than 10 inches are too heavy for collection.

Contracted Yard or House Work

It is the responsibility of a contractor to remove all yard waste and construction debris from the property, Right-of-Way, or public easement.

When hiring contractors to perform any yard or construction work, they are responsible for removing any waste or debris. Contractors cutting and trimming trees and shrubs are responsible for removing all tree trunks, stumps and limbs. Be sure to have this debris removal included in the price quote for the job. The town has the right to refuse trash collection if the above is suspected and/or the waste is excessive. Please review the Town’s guides and policies for more information.

Non-Collection Notice

In the event that Town Sanitation crews do not collect your trash or yard waste, a non-collection notice will be left explaining the problem. Please call Town Hall at 336.454.1138 with any questions regarding the non-collection notice. It is our desire to educate the public about household refuse and yard waste collection requirements. You can also view collection requirements on the Town website at www.Jamestown-nc.gov.

A State ban on wooden pallets in landfills went into effect on October 1, 2009. Therefore, the Town can no longer pickup pallets. Pallets must be disposed of by contractors or vendors. More information can be found at the following link of the N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance website http://www.p2pays.org/BannedMaterials/WoodenPallets/

Garbage Collection

Tuesday or Wednesday
The Town offers exceptional curbside garbage collection once a week, on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (depending on your location), for its citizens. The garbage container must be placed on the curb side by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.

Recycling the Right Way

The Town of Jamestown has a curbside recycling program. Recycling must be in town supplied recycle bin, on the curb by 7am Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on your location), for pickup.

If you are not sure what can be recycled, please do not guess. Call Town Hall at 336.454.1138 for more information or view this informational guide Recycling the Right Way (.pdf). Another helpful document is the Guilford County Solid Waste Services Guide.

Residents of Guilford Co. may take their old computers, television, e-games and old cell phones to Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Center in Greensboro located at 2750 Patterson St. Wednesday - Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturdays 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Special Fees Charged

If you want the Town to collect appliances, you must pay an Appliance Pick-up Fee of $20.00 at Town Hall prior to collection day.

Residents may take appliances to a local salvage yard to avoid the fee. Residents may also take tires and appliances to the Guilford County Scrap Tire and White Goods Collection Facility located at 2138 Bishop Road (located just south of the Wet ‘n Wild Water Park, between Holden and Groometown Roads). Guilford County residents may dispose of 5 passenger tires per yer at no charge at this facility. For each subsequent tire there is a $.85 charge. The town does not collect tires.
