Jamestown, NC – (January 23, 2020) – The Town of Jamestown is announcing potential impacts to motorists using East Fork Rd. as a pedestrian bridge and sidewalks are constructed in the vicinity.

The Town of Jamestown has contracted with North State Environmental of Winston Salem, NC, to assist them in completing a new pedestrian bridge and sidewalk which will link existing sidewalks in Jamestown with the Bicentennial Greenway Trail along East Fork Rd. The project represents an approximate $1.488 million investment in expanding safe pedestrian access between the Town of Jamestown and the Bicentennial Greenway Trail system. The Town is grateful to NCDOT for their assistance in funding this project.

Contractors have been working in the vicinity for a couple of weeks under temporary lane closures. Beginning on Monday, FEBRUARY 3, 2020, the contractor will completely close East Fork Rd. for approximately 4 months while retaining walls, pilings, and the pedestrian bridge are constructed. Detour signs and notices will be displayed in the coming days. This will undoubtedly impact motorists in this area. The Town is notifying public safety organizations as well as local news media in an attempt to help notify motorists to plan ahead for delays or to find alternative routes.

The Town is looking forward to increased public safety for pedestrians and asks for your patience as we all work through the inconvenience of the road closure impacts.
